Quick fixes to try first
- Hard reset: hold
Refresh + Powerfor several seconds to force the display driver to restart. - Check brightness: tap the brightness-up key repeatedly — a Chromebook dimmed to zero looks identical to a black screen at a glance.
- Rule out external display mode: if an external monitor was ever connected, press
Ctrl + Alt + F4to cycle display modes, then disconnect any external cable and restart. - Full shutdown: hold the power button for 10 seconds, wait 10 more, then power back on.
Check the battery and charging state
A battery that’s discharged below the safe threshold can produce a black screen with no other symptoms. Plug in the charger and wait 30 minutes before trying again. If the charger itself is underpowered or incompatible, charging can be slow enough that this cycle needs to be repeated a few times.
Try recovery mode
