If your Chromebook keeps interrupting you with alerts from one specific app, you don’t have to mute every notification on the device to get some peace. ChromeOS lets you control notifications app by app.
Where per-app notification settings live
ChromeOS treats notifications from Chrome (web) apps, Android apps, and PWAs slightly differently, but they all funnel into one settings screen so you don’t have to hunt through multiple menus.
How to turn off notifications for one app
- Click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open Quick Settings.
- Click the gear icon to open full Settings.
- In the left sidebar, select Apps, then Notifications (or Manage Apps depending on your ChromeOS version, then select an app to find its notification toggle).
- Find the app in the list and toggle it off to silence its notifications completely.
- Click into an app’s entry for more granular controls, if the app supports notification categories.
How to check notifications from the system tray directly
- Click the clock to open Quick Settings.
- Click the arrow to the right of the settings gear to expand the panel.
- Look for the Notifications section and click its arrow to expand the full list of apps and web apps that have sent recent notifications.
- Click the gear icon on any individual notification to jump straight to that app’s settings.
How to silence everything temporarily instead

Still not working?
- Duplicate notifications from the same app. This usually happens when both a PWA/web version and an Android version of the same app are installed — uninstall one of the two.
- Toggling an app off doesn’t stop its notifications. Some Android apps have their own in-app notification settings that override the system toggle — check the app’s own settings menu too.
- Managed device won’t let you change notification settings. School or work Chromebooks can lock notification policy by device management — contact your IT administrator.

Can I set different notification rules for different times of day?
Not per app, but Do Not Disturb can be scheduled to turn on automatically at set times, silencing all notifications during that window.
Do notification settings sync across my devices?

Why do I get notifications from an app I never installed?
